Mary Read
Mary Read was an English pirate born in the late 17th century, around 1690. She is best known for her partnership with fellow pirate Anne Bonny. Both women defied societal norms by taking on roles typically reserved for men, engaging in piracy in the Caribbean Sea.
Mary Read's life was marked by adventure and rebellion. She was raised as a boy to secure her inheritance and later joined a pirate crew. Captured in 1720, she was tried for piracy but died in prison shortly after, leaving behind a legacy as one of history's most famous female pirates.
