Maria II was the Queen of Portugal from 1834 until her death in 1853. She ascended to the throne at a young age after a civil war, known as the Liberal Wars, which established a constitutional monarchy in Portugal. Her reign was marked by significant political and social changes, including the modernization of the country.
During her time as queen, Maria II worked to promote education and infrastructure development. She was married to Prince Ferdinand of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, who became King Ferdinand II of Portugal. Together, they had several children, continuing the royal lineage in Portugal.
