Maria Antonia of Naples
Maria Antonia of Naples, also known as Marie Antoinette, was born on November 2, 1755, in Vienna, Austria. She was the fifteenth child of Empress Maria Theresa and Holy Roman Emperor Francis I. In 1770, she married Louis XVI of France, becoming the Queen of France. Her marriage was part of a political alliance between Austria and France.
As queen, Maria Antonia faced criticism and scandal, particularly regarding her lavish lifestyle during a time of economic hardship in France. She became a symbol of royal excess, which contributed to her unpopularity. During the French Revolution, she and her husband were imprisoned, and she was executed by guillotine on October 16, 1793.
