Margaretha Zelle (Spy)
Margaretha Zelle, better known as Mata Hari, was a Dutch exotic dancer and courtesan who gained fame in the early 20th century. Born in 1876, she became a symbol of seduction and intrigue, captivating audiences in Europe with her performances. Her life took a dramatic turn during World War I when she was accused of being a spy for Germany.
In 1917, Zelle was arrested by the French authorities and charged with espionage. Despite her claims of innocence, she was convicted and executed by firing squad in 1917. Her story has since become a legend, representing the complexities of loyalty and betrayal during wartime.
