Marbled Murrelet
The Marbled Murrelet is a small seabird found along the Pacific coast of North America. It is known for its distinctive plumage, which features a mix of dark brown and white colors, providing excellent camouflage against rocky coastal environments. This bird primarily feeds on small fish and invertebrates, diving underwater to catch its prey.
Marbled Murrelets are unique among seabirds because they nest in old-growth forests, often laying their eggs on mossy branches high in trees. Their nesting habits make them vulnerable to habitat loss due to logging and development, leading to conservation efforts aimed at protecting their habitats and populations.
