Management Information Base
A Management Information Base (MIB) is a collection of information organized hierarchically, used for managing devices on a network. It defines the properties of network devices in a structured format, allowing network management systems to monitor and control these devices effectively. MIBs are essential for protocols like Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), which facilitate communication between network devices and management software.
Each entry in a MIB is identified by a unique identifier called an Object Identifier (OID). These OIDs represent various attributes of network devices, such as their status, configuration, and performance metrics. By using MIBs, network administrators can gather valuable insights and ensure the smooth operation of their networks.
