Maltese prehistoric sites
Maltese prehistoric sites are ancient structures found on the islands of Malta and Gozo. These sites date back to the Neolithic period, around 3600 to 2500 BCE, and include impressive megalithic temples, such as Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra. They are known for their large stone blocks and unique architectural features, reflecting the advanced skills of the prehistoric inhabitants.
The temples are among the oldest free-standing structures in the world and are recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Additionally, the islands contain burial sites, such as the Hypogeum of Ħal-Saflieni, which showcase the rich cultural and spiritual practices of the ancient Maltese people.
