Major General John A. Logan
Major General John A. Logan was a prominent Union general during the American Civil War. Born on February 9, 1826, in Illinois, he initially worked as a lawyer and politician before joining the military. Logan played a key role in several significant battles, including the Battle of Vicksburg and the Battle of Atlanta, earning a reputation for his leadership and bravery.
After the war, Logan continued his public service as a politician, serving in the U.S. House of Representatives and later as a senator from Illinois. He was instrumental in establishing Memorial Day as a national holiday to honor fallen soldiers. Logan passed away on December 26, 1886.
