Maize Weevil
The maize weevil is a small insect that primarily infests stored grains, especially maize (corn). It measures about 2.5 to 4 millimeters in length and has a distinctive elongated snout. The adult weevil is brown or black and can be identified by its hard shell and small size.
These pests lay their eggs inside the grains, and when the larvae hatch, they burrow into the kernels, causing significant damage. The presence of maize weevils can lead to reduced grain quality and economic losses for farmers and grain storage facilities. Effective management includes proper storage practices and regular inspections.
