Maiden Castle
Maiden Castle is one of the largest and most complex hill forts in Europe, located near Dorchester in Dorset, England. It dates back to the Iron Age, around 600 BC, and features multiple ramparts and ditches that were designed for defense. The site covers approximately 47 acres and offers a glimpse into ancient British life.
Archaeological excavations at Maiden Castle have revealed evidence of continuous occupation over several centuries, including Roman and Saxon periods. The fortification's strategic position provided a commanding view of the surrounding landscape, making it an important site for both habitation and defense throughout history.
