Maharaja of Jaipur
The Maharaja of Jaipur is the title given to the ruler of the princely state of Jaipur, located in the Rajasthan region of India. The title has a rich history, dating back to the establishment of the city in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, who was also an accomplished astronomer and architect. The Maharaja played a significant role in the development of Jaipur, known for its distinctive pink buildings and planned layout.
Today, the title is largely ceremonial, with the last ruling Maharaja, Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II, having abdicated in 1949 after India gained independence. The current Maharaja, Maharaja Sawai Padmanabh Singh, is involved in various cultural and charitable activities, preserving the heritage of Jaipur and promoting tourism in the region.
