Maharaja Gulab Singh
Maharaja Gulab Singh was the founder of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir in the 19th century. Born in 1792, he was a prominent Dogra ruler who played a significant role in the region's history. Gulab Singh initially served as a general in the army of the Sikh Empire before establishing his own rule after the First Anglo-Sikh War.
In 1846, Gulab Singh signed the Treaty of Amritsar, which formalized his control over Jammu and Kashmir. His leadership laid the foundation for the Dogra dynasty, which ruled the region until 1947. Gulab Singh is remembered for his contributions to the state's administration and development.
