Dogra Dynasty
The Dogra Dynasty was a royal family that ruled the region of Jammu and Kashmir in northern India from the mid-19th century until 1947. Founded by Gulab Singh, a former general in the army of the Sikh Empire, the dynasty established its rule after the Treaty of Amritsar in 1846, which recognized Gulab Singh as the independent ruler of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Dogras played a significant role in the region's history, promoting infrastructure development and modernization. However, their rule faced challenges, including political unrest and social issues. The dynasty came to an end when Maharaja Hari Singh, the last Dogra ruler, signed the Instrument of Accession to India in 1947, leading to the integration of Jammu and Kashmir into the Indian Union.
