Maeshowe
Maeshowe is a Neolithic burial chamber located on the Orkney Islands in Scotland. Built around 2800 BC, it is known for its impressive stone construction and alignment with the winter solstice. The chamber is part of a larger complex of prehistoric sites in the area, including Skara Brae and Ring of Brodgar.
Inside Maeshowe, visitors can find intricate carvings and inscriptions made by Viking raiders in the 12th century. The structure consists of a long passage leading to a central chamber, which was used for burial purposes. Its historical significance makes it a key site for understanding ancient cultures in Scotland.
