Madeira-Mamoré Railway
The Madeira-Mamoré Railway is a historic railway in Brazil that was built between 1907 and 1912. It spans approximately 366 kilometers, connecting the cities of Porto Velho and Guajará-Mirim in the state of Rondônia. The railway was constructed to facilitate the transportation of rubber and other goods from the Amazon rainforest to markets.
The project faced numerous challenges, including difficult terrain, tropical diseases, and financial issues. Despite these obstacles, the railway played a significant role in the economic development of the region. Today, it is recognized as an important part of Brazil's industrial history and a symbol of the challenges faced during its construction.
