Ma'dan
The Ma'dan, also known as the Marsh Arabs, are an indigenous group living in the marshlands of southern Iraq. They have a unique culture that revolves around the wetlands, relying on fishing, water buffalo herding, and agriculture for their livelihoods. The Ma'dan are known for their traditional reed houses, called mudhif, which are constructed from local materials.
Historically, the Ma'dan have faced challenges due to environmental changes and political conflicts. The draining of the marshes in the 1990s significantly impacted their way of life. Efforts have been made to restore the marshlands, allowing the Ma'dan to revive their cultural practices and sustain their communities.
