MERS Coronavirus
The MERS Coronavirus, or Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus, is a virus that can cause severe respiratory illness in humans. It was first identified in Saudi Arabia in 2012 and is primarily transmitted from camels to humans. Infected individuals may experience symptoms such as fever, cough, and shortness of breath, and the disease can lead to pneumonia and kidney failure.
MERS is not as easily spread between people as some other coronaviruses, like SARS or COVID-19. Most cases have been linked to direct or indirect contact with infected camels or their products. Public health measures focus on monitoring and controlling outbreaks, especially in regions where the virus is more common.
