MCP joint
The MCP joint, or metacarpophalangeal joint, is the joint located between the metacarpal bones of the hand and the proximal phalanges of the fingers. It allows for a range of movements, including flexion, extension, abduction, and adduction, enabling the fingers to grasp and manipulate objects effectively.
Each hand has five MCP joints, one for each finger, and they play a crucial role in hand function. These joints are surrounded by ligaments and a joint capsule, providing stability while allowing for flexibility. Proper functioning of the MCP joints is essential for daily activities and overall hand health.
