DIP Joint
The DIP joint, or distal interphalangeal joint, is the joint located at the tip of the fingers and toes. It connects the last bone of the finger or toe to the second-to-last bone, allowing for bending and straightening movements. This joint plays a crucial role in gripping and manipulating objects.
In the hand, each finger has a DIP joint, while the toes also have corresponding joints. The DIP joint is surrounded by ligaments and cartilage, which help stabilize it and reduce friction during movement. Injuries or conditions affecting the DIP joint, such as arthritis, can lead to pain and reduced mobility.
