Luffa Cylindrica (Sponge)
Luffa cylindrica, commonly known as sponge gourd or luffa, is a tropical plant belonging to the cucumber family. It is cultivated for its long, fibrous fruits, which, when dried, become natural sponges. The plant thrives in warm climates and can grow up to 3 feet long, featuring a green, ridged exterior.
Once harvested, the fruits are peeled and the seeds are removed, leaving behind a network of fibers. These fibers are highly absorbent and are often used in bathing sponges, exfoliating scrubs, and even in some cleaning products. Luffa cylindrica is also edible when young and can be cooked like a vegetable.
