Los Katíos National Park
Los Katíos National Park is a protected area located in Colombia, near the border with Panama. Established in 1996, it covers approximately 72,000 hectares and is part of the Tumbes-Chocó-Magdalena biodiversity hotspot. The park features diverse ecosystems, including tropical rainforests, wetlands, and rivers, making it a vital habitat for numerous plant and animal species.
The park is home to many endangered species, such as the Jaguar and the Harpy Eagle. It also plays a crucial role in preserving the cultural heritage of local indigenous communities. Los Katíos National Park was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2018, highlighting its ecological and cultural significance.
