Darien Gap
The Darien Gap is a dense jungle region located between Panama and Colombia. It spans approximately 100 miles and is known for its challenging terrain, which includes swamps, mountains, and thick vegetation. This area is part of the larger Pan-American Highway, but the gap remains one of the few unconnected sections, making overland travel between North and South America difficult.
The region is also home to diverse wildlife and indigenous communities, such as the Emberá and Wounaan peoples. Due to its remoteness, the Darien Gap has become a hotspot for illegal activities, including drug trafficking and human smuggling, further complicating access and safety in the area.
