Lord George Gordon
Lord George Gordon was a British politician and activist born in 1751. He is best known for leading the Gordon Riots in 1780, which were fueled by anti-Catholic sentiment. The riots resulted in widespread violence and destruction in London, highlighting the tensions between different religious groups in England at the time.
Gordon was a member of the House of Lords and a prominent figure in the Protestant community. His actions during the riots led to his arrest and subsequent trial, where he was found guilty of sedition. He spent several years in prison before his death in 1793.
