Lophophorus impejanus, commonly known as the Himalayan monal, is a colorful bird native to the mountainous regions of the Himalayas. It is the national bird of Nepal and is known for its striking plumage, featuring iridescent greens, blues, and reds. The male is particularly vibrant, with a long tail and a distinctive crest on its head.
This bird primarily inhabits forests and alpine meadows at elevations between 2,500 and 4,500 meters. It feeds on a diet of seeds, fruits, and insects. The Himalayan monal is also known for its elaborate courtship displays, where males perform to attract females during the breeding season.
