London Naval Treaty
The London Naval Treaty was an agreement signed in 1930 by major naval powers, including the United Kingdom, United States, and Japan. Its primary goal was to limit naval armaments and prevent an arms race following the Washington Naval Conference of 1921-1922. The treaty established restrictions on the size and number of warships, particularly battleships and aircraft carriers, to promote peace and stability.
The treaty aimed to build on previous agreements and included provisions for the construction of new ships, ensuring that signatory nations maintained a balance of naval power. However, it faced challenges, and by the late 1930s, many countries began to disregard its limitations, leading to increased tensions before World War II.
