Liver Function Test
A Liver Function Test (LFT) is a blood test that measures various enzymes, proteins, and substances produced by the liver. It helps assess the liver's health and functionality by checking levels of bilirubin, alkaline phosphatase, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and alanine aminotransferase (ALT). Abnormal results can indicate liver damage, disease, or dysfunction.
These tests are often ordered when a person shows symptoms like jaundice, fatigue, or abdominal pain. LFTs can also be part of routine health check-ups to monitor liver health, especially in individuals with risk factors such as alcohol consumption or viral hepatitis.
