Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy Type 2
Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy Type 2 (LGMD2) is a group of inherited muscle disorders that primarily affect the muscles around the hips and shoulders. This condition leads to progressive weakness and wasting of these muscles, making it difficult for individuals to perform everyday activities like walking or lifting objects.
LGMD2 is caused by mutations in specific genes, and there are several subtypes, each linked to different genetic defects. Symptoms typically appear in late childhood or early adulthood, and while there is currently no cure, physical therapy and supportive care can help manage the condition and improve quality of life.
