Liechtenauer
Johannes Liechtenauer was a 14th-century German fencing master known for his influential teachings on the art of combat. He developed a system of techniques and principles that became the foundation of the German school of swordsmanship. His work emphasized the importance of timing, distance, and the use of various weapons, particularly the longsword.
Liechtenauer's teachings were recorded in a series of verses known as the Zettel, which served as a mnemonic device for students. His methods were later expanded upon by other masters, leading to a rich tradition of martial arts in Europe that continues to be studied and practiced today.
