Liberty ship
A Liberty ship is a type of cargo ship built during World War II to transport supplies and materials. Designed for mass production, these ships were constructed quickly and efficiently to support the war effort. They typically measured about 441 feet in length and could carry around 10,000 tons of cargo.
The Liberty ship program was initiated by the United States to meet the urgent demand for shipping during the war. Over 2,700 of these vessels were built, making them a vital part of the Allied supply chain. Their simple design allowed for rapid construction, helping to ensure that troops received necessary resources.
