Liberal Unionist Party
The Liberal Unionist Party was a political party in the United Kingdom formed in 1886. It emerged from a split in the Liberal Party over the issue of Irish Home Rule, with members opposing the idea of granting Ireland self-governing powers. The party aimed to maintain the unity of the United Kingdom while promoting liberal policies, such as free trade and social reform.
The Liberal Unionists eventually merged with the Conservative Party in 1912, becoming a significant force in British politics. They played a crucial role in various government coalitions and contributed to debates on issues like imperialism and social welfare during their existence.
