Lhotse is the fourth highest mountain in the world, standing at 8,516 meters (27,940 feet) above sea level. It is located in the Himalayas on the border between Nepal and Tibet, near Mount Everest. Lhotse is known for its dramatic south face, which is one of the highest vertical walls on Earth.
The mountain was first climbed on May 18, 1956, by a Swiss team led by Fritz Luchsinger and Ernst Reiss. Lhotse is often considered a challenging ascent due to its steep terrain and harsh weather conditions. It is part of the Lhotse massif, which includes the smaller peaks of Lhotse Middle and Lhotse Shar.
