Levitical Priesthood
The Levitical Priesthood refers to the group of priests in ancient Israel who descended from the tribe of Levi, one of the twelve tribes of Israel. This priestly class was responsible for performing religious rituals, maintaining the Tabernacle, and later the Temple in Jerusalem. They played a crucial role in the spiritual life of the Israelites, offering sacrifices and teaching the laws given by God.
Members of the Levitical Priesthood were set apart for their duties and were not given a territorial inheritance like the other tribes. Instead, they received cities to dwell in and were supported by tithes from the people. Their role was essential in preserving the worship practices and traditions of the Israelite community.
