Levites
The Levites are members of the tribe of Levi, one of the twelve tribes of Israel. They were designated in ancient times to serve specific religious roles, particularly in the Tabernacle and later in the Temple in Jerusalem. Their responsibilities included performing rituals, maintaining sacred objects, and assisting the priests, who were also from the tribe of Levi.
Unlike other tribes, the Levites did not receive a specific territory in the land of Canaan. Instead, they were given cities to dwell in and were supported by the tithes and offerings from the other tribes. This arrangement allowed them to focus on their religious duties and maintain the spiritual life of the community.
