Least Bittern
The Least Bittern is a small heron species found in North America, particularly in wetlands and marshes. It is known for its secretive behavior and is often difficult to spot due to its camouflaged plumage, which consists of brown, black, and buff colors. Adult Least Bitterns typically measure about 13 to 16 inches in length and have a distinctive long neck and short, stocky body.
These birds primarily feed on small fish, amphibians, and invertebrates, using their sharp bills to catch prey. The Least Bittern is a migratory bird, often traveling to southern regions during the winter months. Its habitat is threatened by wetland destruction, making conservation efforts important for its survival.
