Laysan duck
The Laysan duck is a small, flightless bird native to the Laysan Island in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. It has a distinctive appearance, with a brownish body, a pale face, and a unique greenish-yellow patch on its wings. This duck primarily feeds on seeds, leaves, and insects found in its coastal habitat.
Once nearly extinct, the Laysan duck has made a remarkable recovery due to conservation efforts. It is now protected under the Endangered Species Act and is a symbol of successful wildlife preservation. The population has increased, but it remains vulnerable due to its limited range and habitat threats.
