Latvian History
Latvian history dates back to ancient times when the region was inhabited by various Baltic tribes. In the 13th century, the area became part of the Livonian Order, a military and religious organization. Over the centuries, Latvia was influenced by various powers, including Sweden, Poland, and Russia, leading to a complex cultural and political landscape.
In the early 20th century, Latvia declared independence in 1918 after World War I. However, it was occupied by the Soviet Union during World War II and regained independence in 1990. Today, Latvia is a member of the European Union and NATO, reflecting its commitment to democracy and regional stability.
