Laryngeal Muscles
Laryngeal muscles are a group of muscles located in the larynx, or voice box, which play a crucial role in voice production and breathing. These muscles control the tension and position of the vocal cords, allowing for variations in pitch and volume during speech.
There are two main types of laryngeal muscles: intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic muscles, such as the cricothyroid and thyroarytenoid, adjust the vocal cords' length and tension. Extrinsic muscles, like the sternothyroid and thyrohyoid, help stabilize the larynx and connect it to surrounding structures, aiding in overall laryngeal function.
