Lap
A "lap" refers to the area of a person's body between the waist and the knees when sitting down. It is often used as a space for holding objects, such as a book or a pet, while seated. The lap can also be a comfortable place for children to sit when being read to or cuddled.
In sports, particularly in racing, a "lap" is a complete circuit around a track. For example, in a car race or running event, competitors complete multiple laps to determine the winner. The number of laps can vary depending on the specific rules of the event.
