Lao royal family
The Lao royal family was the ruling dynasty of the Kingdom of Laos until the monarchy was abolished in 1975. The family traces its lineage back to the Lan Xang Kingdom, which was established in the 14th century. The last king, Savang Vatthana, ruled from 1959 until the monarchy's end, when the Pathet Lao took control.
The royal family played a significant role in Laos' history, influencing its culture and politics. After the monarchy was dissolved, many members of the family went into exile, while others faced persecution. Today, the legacy of the Lao royal family remains a topic of interest in Laotian history.
