Landsturm
The term "Landsturm" refers to a military reserve force in Germany and Austria-Hungary, primarily established in the late 19th century. It was composed of older men who had completed their mandatory military service and were called upon during times of war or national emergency. The Landsturm served as a supplementary force to the regular army, providing additional manpower when needed.
During World War I, the Landsturm played a significant role in supporting the regular troops, especially in defensive operations. While they were not as well-trained as active soldiers, their local knowledge and experience were valuable. The concept of the Landsturm highlighted the importance of citizen-soldiers in national defense.
