Lamoral, Count of Egmont
Lamoral, Count of Egmont (1522-1568), was a prominent nobleman and military leader in the Spanish Netherlands. He played a significant role in the early stages of the Dutch Revolt against Spanish rule. Egmont was known for his military prowess and was a key figure in the defense of the region during the conflicts of the time.
Despite his loyalty to the Spanish crown, Egmont opposed the harsh policies of King Philip II of Spain. In 1567, he was arrested and executed for treason, which sparked outrage and further fueled the desire for independence among the Dutch nobility. His legacy remains a symbol of resistance against tyranny.
