Dutch Revolt
The Dutch Revolt, also known as the Eighty Years' War, was a conflict that took place from 1568 to 1648 between the Spanish Empire and the northern provinces of the Low Countries, which later became the Netherlands. The revolt was driven by a desire for independence, religious freedom, and resistance against heavy taxation imposed by the Spanish crown.
The war began with local uprisings and escalated into a full-scale rebellion. Key figures included William of Orange, who emerged as a leader for the Dutch cause. The conflict ultimately led to the recognition of Dutch independence with the signing of the Treaty of Westphalia in 1648.
