Lake Poopó
Lake Poopó is a large saline lake located in Bolivia, near the city of Oruro. It is situated at an altitude of about 3,700 meters (12,139 feet) above sea level and covers an area of approximately 1,500 square kilometers (580 square miles). The lake is an important habitat for various bird species and has been a vital resource for local communities.
In recent years, Lake Poopó has faced significant environmental challenges, including severe drought and climate change, leading to a dramatic reduction in its water levels. Once the second-largest lake in Bolivia, it has shrunk considerably, impacting the livelihoods of those who depend on its resources for fishing and agriculture.
