Lake Kerkini
Lake Kerkini is a large artificial lake located in northern Greece, near the town of Kerkini. Created in the 1930s for irrigation and flood control, it covers an area of approximately 40 square kilometers. The lake is surrounded by mountains and is known for its rich biodiversity, including various fish species and migratory birds.
The lake is part of the Kerkini Lake National Park, which is a protected area that attracts nature lovers and birdwatchers. It is home to over 300 bird species, including the rare Dalmatian pelican. The park also offers opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, and boat tours.
