Lake Dwellings
Lake dwellings, also known as pile dwellings, are ancient structures built on stilts over water bodies such as lakes and rivers. These homes were constructed by various prehistoric cultures, including the Neolithic people in Europe, to protect against flooding and predators. The stilted design allowed for better access to fishing and transportation.
Archaeological sites of lake dwellings have been discovered in several regions, including the Swiss Alps and Northern Italy. Many of these sites are now UNESCO World Heritage Sites, providing valuable insights into early human life, settlement patterns, and environmental adaptation during the Stone Age.
