Lagrange Point 1
Lagrange Point 1, or L1, is one of five specific points in space where the gravitational forces of two large bodies, like the Earth and the Sun, balance with the centripetal force felt by a smaller object. This unique position allows a satellite to maintain a stable orbit relative to both larger bodies, making it ideal for observing solar activity.
Located approximately 1.5 million kilometers from Earth, L1 is often used for space missions that monitor the Sun, such as the SOHO and ACE satellites. These missions benefit from the continuous view of solar phenomena without the interference of the Earth's atmosphere.
