Lago Poopó
Lago Poopó is a large, shallow lake located in Bolivia, near the city of Oruro. It sits at an elevation of about 3,700 meters (12,139 feet) above sea level and covers an area of approximately 1,500 square kilometers (580 square miles). The lake is an important habitat for various bird species and supports local fishing activities.
Historically, Lago Poopó was the second-largest lake in Bolivia, but it has experienced significant shrinkage due to climate change and water diversion for agriculture. This decline has impacted local communities and ecosystems that depend on the lake's resources.
