Lactate
Lactate is a byproduct of the body's metabolism, primarily produced during intense exercise when oxygen levels are low. It forms from pyruvate, a substance generated during the breakdown of glucose for energy. Lactate can be used as an energy source by muscles and other tissues, helping to sustain physical activity.
In addition to its role in energy production, lactate is often associated with muscle fatigue and soreness. However, it is a normal part of the body's response to exercise and is eventually converted back to glucose in the liver through a process called gluconeogenesis, aiding in recovery.
