La Amistad
"La Amistad" was a Spanish slave ship that became famous for a mutiny in 1839. A group of enslaved Africans, led by Cinqué, took control of the ship while it was transporting them from Sierra Leone to Cuba. They aimed to return to Africa but were captured off the coast of Long Island.
The case of "La Amistad" went to the U.S. Supreme Court, where it was argued that the Africans had been illegally enslaved. In 1841, the Court ruled in their favor, allowing them to return home. This case highlighted issues of slavery and human rights in the United States.
