LGM-118 Peacekeeper
The LGM-118 Peacekeeper, also known as the MX missile, is a type of intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) developed by the United States during the Cold War. It was designed to carry multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles (MIRVs), allowing it to strike several targets simultaneously. The Peacekeeper was deployed in the 1980s and played a significant role in U.S. nuclear deterrence strategy.
The missile has a range of approximately 6,000 miles and can deliver a payload of up to 10 warheads. The LGM-118 was retired in 2005 as part of arms reduction agreements, marking the end of its operational service. Its development was influenced by the strategic dynamics of the Soviet Union and the broader context of nuclear warfare.
